ZAGREB, March 27 (Hina) - The Croatian Minister of Agriculture and
Forestry, Matej Jankovic, described today's demonstration of
Croatian peasants and fishermen as a 'completely usual means of
democratic pressure, which in this case had been used by the
Opposition which wanted to present itself as peasants' tutor'.
Speaking in tonight's news broadcast on Croatian television,
Jankovic said: 'The Government will not yield to pressures since it
is conscious of all difficulties and is doing all it can to bring
things back to normal'.
Asked how the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry would react
and what the Government would do, Jankovic said that the
Government, after it held talks with representatives of peasants,
the Peasants' Association and the Croatian Peasants' Party (HSS),
only confirmed what it was doing and what it still intended to do.
'Considering the present situation in Croatia, and I also mean
the part of the Croatian policy relating to Bosnia-Herzegovina, we
have an obligation to act rationally', Jankovic said.
Jankovic added that allegations about import and export
relations between Croatia and Herzeg-Bosnia were not true.
Croatia's export to Herzeg-Bosnia was much bigger than its
import from the area.
