The investigation of the incident was under way, IFOR
spokesman Marc Rayner said, adding it was still unknown what had
caused the explosion. It was only known that the incident happened
in a hospital in the vicinity of 'Zetra' sports hall, where
Portuguese and Italian soldiers are accommodated.
The hospital, formerly a maternity hospital, was abandoned
after it had been damaged by the Serb artillery at the beginning of
the war. NATO soldiers were the first to enter it after three and a
half years, and they turned it into a barracks.
IFOR experts in Sarajevo say that it is rather difficult to
determine whether the explosion was caused by a planted mine or an
unexploded shell.
Three French soldiers were wounded during a routine exercise
near Mt Igman yesterday. One of the soldiers sustained severe
injuries to his arm and was transported to France by plane today.
