ZAGREB, Jan 23 (Hina) - The general secretariat of the Croatian
ruling party, HDZ, Tuesday issued a statement on the HDZ presidency
session, held on Monday. #L#
According to the statement, the HDZ Presidency discussed
"certain media reports, considering them to be deliberate attempts
aimed at causing a rift in the party leadership."
"Pointing to obvious similarity with the former unsuccessful
attempts, when under more difficult circumstances the unity of the
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and a parliamentary majority was
preserved," the presidency draws attention to the fact that such
attempts are groundless and without prospects.
The HDZ presidency said that it was necessary that all bodies
of state authorities take systematically measures in the fight
against all kinds of crimes, and called on HDZ members and Croatian
citizens to participate in that struggle.
"In this regard, the judiciary should step up procedures
against perpetrators of crimes in the liberated areas," the
statement read.
The HDZ presidency supported the draft 1996 budget and
suggested to the Government to further consider possibilities of
improving the financial position of retirees.
The presidency convened a session of the HDZ central committee
for 24 and 25 February to discuss "a programme and tasks of the HDZ
in building a law-based and welfare state", the statement read.
