The President's Office said in a statement that all current
issues concerning the Bosniac (Moslem)-Croat Federation of Bosnia-
Herzegovina and the situation in Mostar were discussed at the
meeting.
The participants in the meeting were unanimous in the view on
necessity of resolving the issue of the Federation in whole, in
order to strengthen the Federation in line with the Washington and
Dayton peace accords. It was also stressed that it was necessary to
establish speedily both federal and local, including cantonal and
town, authorities.
As regards the settlement to problems in Mostar, Hans Koschnik
accepted a proposal by President Tudjman that the Republic of
Croatia send around 100 police troops to Mostar, who will, under
the command of a EU commissioner and together with EU police
forces, control and patrol the city.
It was also accepted that, besides the arbitration of a US
official, the EU Administrator should assume the role of an
arbitrator for all disputable issues in Mostar.
Koschnik stressed it was necessary to unite Mostar on the
level of the infrastructure, and added that he agreed that Mostar
should be the Croatian centre of the Federation.
Stressing that the Mostar issue was connected to all problems
in the establishment of the Federation, Koschnik thanked President
Tudjman for the support and cooperation of the Croatian state
authorities in resolving all current issues.
Also present at the meeting were Croatian Deputy Prime
Minister and Foreign Minister, Mate Granic, Croatian Defence
Minister, Gojko Susak, the acting head of the National Security
Office and the head of the Croatian Information Service, Miroslav
Tudjman, and the President's special envoy and Croatian Ambassador
to the United States, Miomir Zuzul.
