BELGRADE, Jan 17 (Hina) - Croatia's ambassador to the United
Nations, Mario Nobilo, said on Wednesday that the issue of
Prevlaka, the southernmost tip of Croatia bordering Montenegro,
could be solved peacefully through diplomatic negotiations.
Commenting on the latest UN Security Council resolutions in an
interview with the Belgrade-based independent radio B92, Nobilo
said that the land border between Croatia and the Yugoslav
federation of Serbia and Montenegro was not negotiable.
He said that further talks on border issues could only focus
on the delimitation of territorial waters and waterways, adding
that mutual recogntion would be required before the beginning of
such talks.
Speaking of the UN resolution on Eastern Slavonia, Baranja and
Western Srijem, the areas of eastern Croatia still under Serb
occupation, Nobilo said that it was in line with the Dayton peace
agreement and that its implementation was possible since the United
States guaranteed that the problem would be solved peacefully.
Nobilo said that the reopening an oil pipeline and restoration
of rail and road links with Croatia would also be in Belgrade's
interest and that Serbia should give up failed attempts at
expanding its territory by two to three percent at Croatia's
expense.
