The statement quoted the western city half (Croat-controlled)
police sources as saying that the boy, Alan Mustovic, 17, was shot
at after passing at high speed by the check-point at the city's Ero
hotel, where the European Union administration resides.
A policeman fired at the VW Golf car and the bullet hit the
driver from the back. One of three other persons who were in the
car, took the wheel and drove it to the hospital in the eastern
(Bosniac-controlled) part of the city, but doctors could only
establish death.
EU police officials underscored that the investigation was
still underway, since they had to collect data and statements from
the police in eastern half of Mostar.
The (Bosnian Croat western) Mostar Police Department on Monday
said the incident had happened at about 5 a.m., as two cars, VW
Golf and Lada, failed to stop at the check-point after which the
"gunfire was heard" in downtown Mostar.
The police officials added they were not asked to launch their
own investigation, and recalled that the check-point had regularly
been closed for traffic from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
