Bildt reiterated his stance that the three peoples in Bosnia-
Herzegovina had to create the atmosphere of trust and secure
conditions for parliamentary life and democracy. The task of the
international community was to assist them in that process.
Asked about the situation in Mostar, Bildt said the situation
in the city was difficult. It was the situation in Mostar that
would determine whether the Federation would be able to function or
not, Bildt said.
Bildt also mentioned threats by the Bosnian Serbs to leave
Sarajevo in great numbers. Such an act would represent a
humanitarian tragedy and would call into question the chances of a
long-term solution of the Bosnian crisis, he said.
'A great number of ordinary people would like to stay, but
they are afraid to do so', Bildt added.
