SARAJEVO, Jan 5 (Hina) - Bosnian Presidency member Mirko Pejanovic
on Friday called on international mediator Carl Bildt to organise
talks with representatives of Serbs living around Sarajevo to
ensure the peaceful transition of these areas to the Bosnian
Federation. #L#
Pejanovic, who is also the chairman of the Serbian Citizens'
Council, an organisation that protects the interests of Serbs in
the Bosnian Federation, said that a Council representative had
recently talked with local Serbs in Ilidza, who told him that most
of the people wanted to stay in their homes when the area was
transferred to the Federation, but extremists would not allow that.
Bildt said that the Serbs living in the parts of Sarajevo
still controlled by Karadzic's forces "needed a strong signal from
the lawful government of Bosnia to decide to stay."
Pejanovic also asked Bildt to urge IFOR to ensure free travel
to Sarajevo and prevent the destruction of facilities and the
kidnapping of people travelling to the Bosnian capital.
