NATO WON'T TOLERATE WAR CRIMES SUSPECTS REMAINING AT LARGE

( Editorial: --> 9771 ) SARAJEVO, Dec 19 (Hina) - NATO Secretary-General Javier Solana said on Friday that the international community would not allow persons indicted for war crimes by the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague to remain free. Speaking at a news conference in Sarajevo at the end of a day-long visit, Solana said this message had been made clear to members of Bosnia-Herzegovina's collective presidency during today's talks. The talks involved Alija Izetbegovic, Kresimir Zubak and Deputy Foreign Minister Dragan Bozanic, who stood in for the Serb member of the presidency Momcilo Krajisnik. If the parties in Bosnia-Herzegovina fail to surrender war crimes suspects to the international tribunal, we shall undertake all necessary measures, Solana said. The action by SFOR troops two days ago, when two Bosnian Croat indictees were arrested in Vitez, is a very clear sign in that direction, he added. Responding to a question, Solana said that Bosnian officials had not pledged to hand over indicted war criminals, but he hoped that his message was understood clearly. (hina) vm mm 191952 MET dec 97
