ZAGREB, Dec 8 (Hina) - The Lira mixed choir will give a concert in
Zagreb on Tuesday to celebrate the establishment of diplomatic
relations between Croatia and Israel.
The concert, which will also promote a CD compiling Sephardic
romances, is organized by the Croatian-Israeli Society.
The Society was established three and a half years ago, according to
its president Mihael Montiljo, "with the basic wish to promote
friendship between Croatia and Israel."
The Society currently numbers more than 700 members, including 200
Jews.
The Lira choir was established 43 years ago under a decision of the
Jewish Community of Zagreb. It was called the Jewish Choir, and its
aim was to preserve the Jewish vocal folk song after the Holocaust.
Simultaneously, it nurtured the Croatian and international
classical and contemporary repertoire.
