CEI FOREIGN MINISTERS ADJUST FINAL DOCUMENTS AT SARAJEVO SUMMIT

( Editorial: --> 4569 ) SARAJEVO, Nov 28 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Zlatko Matesa met Austrian Chancellor Viktor Klima in Sarajevo on Friday, where they were attending a Central European Initiative (CEI) summit. Sources close to the Croatian delegation said the two officials discussed the situation in the region and the peace process. Klima expressed particular interest in the views of Croatia which takes over CEI chairmanship next month. Matesa and Klima expressed mutual interest in cooperation in the prevention of organised crime and drug smuggling. The foreign ministers of CEI member states adjusted the texts of joint documents which were expected to be adopted by prime ministers on Saturday. Bosnian Foreign Minister Jadranko Prlic said that particularly discussed was the implementation of the Dayton peace agreement and that all member states expressed great interest in strengthening the peace processes, and showed willingness to provide financial support for the reconstruction of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Also discussed were the human rights situation, the affirmation of values of a civil society and a European Union meeting in Luxembourg, since CEI membership represents preparation for entry into European institutions. Of 16 CEI member states, two are full members of the European Union while seven have some form of a negotiated relationship with it. The issue of Yugoslavia's membership in the CEI was raised again during today's unofficial meeting of foreign ministers. Most participants stuck to the position that Belgrade first had to apply for membership in that association, since it was not entitled to the seat vacated following the collapse of the former Yugoslavia.
