POLLING STATIONS CLOSE IN BOSNIAN SERB REPUBLIC

( Editorial: --> 3017 ) SARAJEVO, Nov 22 (Hina) - The first day of elections for the Bosnian Serb Assembly on Saturday passed off without any major problems or incidents, OSCE spokesman Luke Zahner said in Sarajevo after all polling stations in the Serb Republic closed at 19.00 hours. Zahner could not give any precise data on the voter turnout. He said that the turnout was higher in rural areas than in towns, adding that a larger number of voters could be expected on the second day as had happened in municipal polls in September. The OSCE spokesman reiterated that only those who had registered in municipalities on the territory of the Serb Republic were entitled to vote. He added that some people who had turned up at polling stations today were not allowed to vote because they did not belong to that category. Polling stations will reopen at 8.00 hours and close at 16.00 hours on Sunday. (hina) vm 222053 MET nov 97
