CROATIAN RADIO RELAYS ONE-HOUR LIVE BROADCAST FROM VUKOVAR ( Editorial: --> 1677 )

( Editorial: --> 1677 ) VUKOVAR, Nov 18 (Hina) - On November 18, the anniversary of the fall of Vukovar into the hands of the Serb rebels supported by the then Yugoslav Army (JNA), the Croatian Radio First Programme relayed its live broadcast "Good morning, Here is the Croatian Radio" to the displaced people on Tuesday from Vukovar. First returnees to this eastern Croatian town, Katarina Balog and Ivan Frank, Vukovar Mayor, Vladimir Stengl, the Vukovar hospital's head, Vesna Bosanac, a vice chairman of the national committee in charge of trust establishment, Ivica Vrkic, the Transitional Police Force chief, Ivan Babic, the head of the centre for the reconstruction of the Danube river region Ivan Krstanovic, and the head of the Vukovar branch of the HDZ party, Petar Mlinaric took part in the one-hour broadcast. They recalled the tragedy this town had experienced on 18 November 1991 and talked about the development and reconstruction of the region. Ivica Vrkic said that Vukovar contained two kinds of heroism - the wartime and peacetime. Thanks to heroism of Vukovar defenders, we got our state, whereas sacrifice of exiled Vukovar citizens in peacetime helped the reintegration of the whole of Croatia in a peaceful manner, Vrkic said. He said that today's visit of the Croatian government to Vukovar would mark a new page in history of Vukovar in which the reconstruction of the war-damaged town should begin whereas memory of the recent history would be cherished all the time. The returnee, Katarina Balog, whose husband was a victim at the Ovcara mass grave and whose son is still registered as missing, called on exiled Croats to come back. "Vukovar cannot live without Croats," she said. (hina) mš 181258 MET nov 97
