SARAJEVO, Nov 16 (Hina) - The President of Bosnia-Herzegovina's
collective Presidency, Alija Izetbegovic, has said that he is
willing to help meet demands of the international community for
enabling refugees, pre-war tenants, to return to their flats,
currently occupied by other refugees, on condition that the
procedure of such return may be conducted on the whole of Bosnia.
Izetbegovic was quoted by the Sarajevo television on Saturday night
as saying that a process of the return of refugees in Bosnia should
start with the return of Serbs who fled Croatian areas during the
liberating operation of the Croatian army "Storm" in 1995.
He said that there was the question how to "unblock" the entire
process.
According to him, there was a solution as the central Croatian
region that used to be held by Serb rebels, had the largest number of
vacant houses and flats, and many Serbs from that region were now
living in Bosnia. They should return to their homes and in this way,
a great number of flats in (Bosnian towns of) Banja Luka, Prijedor,
Brcko could become available for exiled Moslems (Bosniaks),
Izetbegovic explained adding that those possible Moslem returnees
would leave flats to which Bosnian Serbs could come back.
I hold that this is the only right solution, Izetbegovic added.
