ASSOCIATION OF SERB DISPLACED AND RETURNEES FOUNDED IN VUKOVAR ( Editorial: --> 1110 )

( Editorial: --> 1110 ) VUKOVAR, 15 Nov (Hina) - An association of Serb displaced persons and returnees was founded in Vukovar on Saturday. The association, which originated from a former association of displaced Serbs in the Croatian Danube river region, elected Djuro Kresovic its president. The association will represent the interests of displaced Serbs and Serbs who have returned to their homes in Croatia. The newly-elected president Djuro Kresovic, a Serb from Zadar, said in his speech that the numerous problems had to be solved in cooperation with the Croatian authorities, non-government and humanitarian organisations and the international community. Welcoming the establishment of the association in line with Croatian laws, the head of the Croatian Government Office for Displaced Persons and Refugees, Lovre Pejkovic, called on the association to solve their problems in cooperation with the Government, and not through mediators. That was the best way to avoid unnecessary politicizing of humanitarian problems of the two-way return, Pejkovic said. Present at today's constituent session were also Parliament member and vice president of the national Trust Establishment Committee, Vojislav Stanimirovic, the president of the Croatian Association of Displaced Persons, Mato Simic, the president of the Joint Council of (Serb-dominated) Municipalities, Milos Vojnovic, representatives of the Osijek and Vinkovci offices for displaced persons and refugees, Nada Arbanas and Ante Drmic, and the president of the Serb People's Party (SNS), Milan Djukic.
