ZAGREB, Oct 16 (Hina) - The Croatian Parliament House of
Representatives of Thursday discussed bills on the ratification of
the European Charter on regional and minority languages and on the
use of language and script of ethnic and national minorities or
communities. #L#
The signing of the Charter only provides an international
legal framework for a number of rights of particular minorities
which Croatia has recognised and stipulated in bilateral agreements
with certain countries.
A bill suggests minority languages the Charter's provisions
pertain to be Italian, Hungarian, Czech, Slovakian, Ruthenian,
Ukrainian and Serbian.
The Bill on the official use of the language and script of
ethnic and national communities or minorities defines the official
use of minority language and script, and establishes the content,
proportions and conditions under which a minority has the right to
official use of its language and script.
Most MPs supported the bills. Several MPs suggested that
Croatia ratifies the integral Charter, not only some of its
provisions.
