Deputy High Representative in Bosnia Gerd Wagner was among the
killed, head of the Federation Interior Minister Office, Suad
Arnautovic, told Hina Wednesday.
Wagner was one of the two deputies to the High International
Representative. The other deputy to High Representative Carlos
Westendorp is U.S. diplomat Jacques Klein.
Wagner was a former head of the German Embassy political
department in Washington. He arrived in Sarajevo in July as deputy
to the Spanish diplomat Carlos Westendorp, after he had been
proposed for the duty by the German government in Bonn.
He was married and had three children.
The helicopter, probably an Mi6-HIP type, was rented by U.N.
members from Ukraine.
An aircraft mechanic, member of the Ukrainian helicopter crew,
said that the aircraft suddenly found itself in thick fog, then hit
trees, crashed and began to burn.
The three severely injured passengers were transported to a
Stabilisation Force hospital in Rajlovac, and two lightly injured
passengers were hospitalised in 'Kosevo' hospital in Sarajevo.
Arnautovic said that six passengers aboard the helicopter were
from the Office of the High Representative, while other six were
members of the International Police Task Force.
Western diplomats in Sarajevo said that the passengers
included two German, one British and one U.S. national. The
nationality of other passengers is still unknown.
