VITEZ, Aug 28 (Hina) - SFOR Sector Southwest troops are not
controlling the media system in Republika Srpska, only the radio
and television transmitter at Lisina (Kozara) because it contains
valuable equipment belonging to SFOR and OSCE, spokesman to
SFOR's Sector Southwest Michael Wright told a news conference in
Vitez. #L#
Spokesman for the Banja Luka-based International Police
Task Force, Alun Roberts, spoke about how political symbols in
Republika Srpska reflected on the situation in the police in the
entity.
There was ambiguity with a part of the police about
whether they would accept reorganisation envisaged by the peace
agreement or whether they would support the centre in Bijeljina,
where the process was being obstructed, Roberts said.
He stressed that the IPTF-supervised reorganisation of the
police in Republika Srpska was proceeding without difficulties in
Banja Luka, Laktasi, Mrkonjic-Grad and Kotor-Varos, while
preparations were under way in Celinac, Knezevo and Prijedor.
We have the full support of the President of Republika
Srpska, Biljana Plavsic, in this, Roberts said.
He stressed the situation in Drvar was very complicated.
The displaced central Bosnian Croats who were returning from
Germany wanted to live in Drvar for the most part. At the same
time, an increasing number of Serbs wanted to return to the town.
The IPTF and other international organisations were thus in
contact with the Drvar authorities at all times, Roberts said.
