SPLIT, Aug 12 (Hina) - A big fire that had broken out near the
southern Croatian Adriatic resort town of Trogir was put under
control at 11.30 hours on Tuesday, police said.
Two firefighters received light injuries in efforts to
contain the blaze which had erupted in the Vrsine area shortly
before 22.00 hours on Monday.
Police could not say with certainty when the fire would be
extinguished because its spreading was assisted by the wind. But
they stressed that the houses in Vrsine and Najevi were out of
danger of the conflagration.
Two fire-fighting planes and two helicopters were taking
part in efforts to put out the fire.
More than 600 hectares of dense pine forest, olive grove,
vineyard and underbrush has been consumed by the blaze.
