County police said in a statement, adding that over 1,500 hectares had been ablaze.
SPLIT, July 29 (Hina) - A blaze which broke out on the central Adriatic
Croatian island of Hvar after 12.00 hours Monday has not been controlled
by 14.00 hours Tuesday, despite great efforts of the fire fighters, the Split-
Dalmatia County police said in a statement, adding that over 1,500 hectares
had been ablaze. #L#
This is the largest fire in Dalmatia in the past several years, and has
taken all characteristics of a natural disaster by Tuesday.
Traffic in the largest part of the island has been put to a halt and the
whole islands of Hvar and Vis, which share a cable, have been left without
electricity.
