TUZLA, Aug 11 (Hina) - Representatives of the Nordic-Polish brigade of the
Stabilization Force's North Sector yesterday held talks with representatives
of special police units of the Bosnian Serb entity in Doboj, focusing on the
establishment of a new police for the supervision and reduction of special
police forces in the two (Croat-Moslem, Serb) BH entities, the information
office of SFOR's North Sector said in a statement on Monday.
The Serb entity's special police representatives accepted SFOR's
proposal on the establishment of the new police in line with the Dayton
peace accord, the statement said, adding that SFOR promised to continue
cooperating in the carrying out of this commitment from the peace accord.
The new police are envisaged to assist in the process of restructuring
the police in the entities, in order to reduce the number of policemen of both
entities to the level envisaged in the Dayton accord.
Special police units in the police force of the entities, which the
International Police Task Force did not sanction, would, according to the
statement, be treated like military police, in line with the peace agreement's
Annexe 1-A. They would be in the care of the IPTF, unless their role was
altered through a police reduction programme, the statement by SFOR's
North Sector concluded.
