President Tudjman congratulated Preost and presented him
with a golden ring and a sabre. He presented Preost's helper
Ante Labrovic with a silver ring and a pistol.
President Tudjman then addressed the gathering.
The organisation of Sinj jousting tournaments was and is
something the Croatian people are proud of, it is a symbol of
Croatian national consciousness and determination to remain on
one's own territory and show resistance to all those who wanted
to conquer and reign Croatia, Tudjman said.
"The tradition of the Sinj jousting tournament, your
victories and the victories of all Croats - from Dubrovnik to
Sinj and Siget - are interwoven in the reconstruction and
resurrection of the independent, democratic and internationally
recognised Croatian state," Tudjman said.
The Croatian people has to engage all of its power in the
economic and cultural construction of the country so that it
could be a country of welfare, democracy and happiness of all
Croatian people, Tudjman said.
