KARANAC, Aug 7 (Hina) - A mass was held in the village of Karanac in the
UN-administered Baranja region in eastern Croatia for the first time in six
years on Thursday.
The mass, held in honour of St. Donat, the church's protector, was
served by friar Vinko Dubravac. Present were some 100 displaced persons
from Karanac who had arrived by buses from Osijek.
"We are coming back with a full heart and with much love, to build
coexistence with those who want it, and to help those who are in need",
Dubravac told the present.
There were 1,466 inhabitants in Karanac before the Serb aggression
on Croatia, of whom 32 percent were Croats and 19 percent were
Hungarians. About 400 residents were displaced.
