ZAGREB, July 13 (Hina) - The 23rd Canadian-Croatian folk festival, which
gathers about 900 young Canadian Croatians of 14 folk troupes, has been
taking place in Zagreb on Saturday and Sunday. The event, under the
sponsorship of Croatian President Franjo Tudjman, is organised by the
association of Croatian emigrants ('Hrvatska matica iseljenika') and the
Canadian-Croatian folk troupes' federation.
On Sunday morning, participants in the event marched from the
Croatian National Theatre to Zagreb's Cathedral where Assistant Bishop
Juraj Jezerinac said a Mass for them.
On Saturday night, troupes performed dances and songs of all parts
of Croatia in the Vatroslav Lisinski concert hall in the capital.
The festival ends on Sunday afternoon when folk groups perform
their programme at Zrinjevac, the downtown Zagreb. Later on the 'Lado'
troupe and the Croatian Television tamburica orchestra will hold a
concert in Vatroslav Lisinski.
After the Zagreb event, Canadian-Croatian folk troupes will tour
Croatia.
