PALE, July 2 (Hina) - U.S. General Jacques Klein, who is UN Transitional
Administrator of the Croatian Danube area, will be a new deputy to the
international community's High Representative to Bosnia-Herzegovina.
A spokesman for the High Representative's office, Simon Haselock
described the appointment of Gen. Klein, which will be announced also in
the UN headquarters in New York on Wednesday, as the response of the
U.S. Administration to the request of the High Representative, Spanish
Carlos Westendorp, that his first deputy should be a man who has
experience in the region.
Westendorp was very satisfied with Klein's appointment, Haselock
said at a news conference at Pale, outside Sarajevo, on Wednesday.
Westendorp issued a statement on this occasion saying that he
greeted warmly the joining of Klein to his staff. In the statement, the
Spanish diplomat praised Klein for excellent job the U.S. general had
done in eastern Slavonia.
Gen. Klein will succeed a German diplomat, Michael Steiner, as the
First Deputy to the High Representative.
