LISTING OF HOUSES, WAR DAMAGE IN CRO DANUBE REGION BEGINS

BEGINS $ VUKOVAR, July 30 (Hina) - Teams of the Croatian Government, UNTAES and UNHCR are to begin with the listing of houses and war damage in 17 villages of the Danube region of eastern Croatia as of Thursday. After this procedure, to last a week in every village, the Croatian Government's Office for Displaced Persons and Refugees will issue return certificates to displaced persons from these villages who registered for the return, and who may return either to empty houses or on the basis of bringing families together. The above mentioned procedure is part of a stepped-up two-way mass return of displaced Croats and Serbs, coordinated by the Croatian Government, UNTAES and UNHCR in view of implementing an agreement between Croatian President Franjo Tudjman and UN's transitional administrator for the Danube region Jacques Klein. Listing in other villages will be carried out after the procedure in the mentioned 17 villages is successfully completed, as has already been done in seven villages earlier on. Requests by displaced Serbs currently living in those villages will also be registered during the listing of houses and war damage, so that those who wish to reconstruct their houses in other places in Croatia may obtain a decision on the reconstruction within two months after the listing has been done, and a decision on temporary accommodation within 70 days. Those who wish to sell their property to the Specific Real Estate Trade Agency may get a sales contract within 45 days after the listing. Croatian displaced persons will at first return to less damaged houses, which can be reconstructed faster and cheaper. The newly-established Tudjman-Klein initiative implementation headquarters, which is composed of representatives of all institutions that will carry out the stepped-up two-way mass return of displaced Croats and Serbs, on Wednesday held its first meeting in Vukovar to discuss the concrete implementation of the mentioned procedures. In the future it is to meet once a week. (hina) ha mm 301420 MET jul 97
