Adding that production, according to all data, was about 3.8 tons per
hectare, that is, a total of 100,000 tons, Djurkic recalled that the harvest +
had
taken longer than usual because of abundant rains, so the last harvested
amounts were of a lesser quality.
Preparations for the autumn sowing have already begun in the
region, and farmers are looking for and contracting seeds.
"They are completely orientated on the Croatian market," Djurkic
said.
In other parts of Croatia, the harvest is nearing an end and weather
permitting, the job would be completed in two or three days.
According to the latest information received by the Croatian
Agriculture and Forestry Ministry harvest department, 85.5 percent of
acreage, or 176,450 hectares, have been harvested. The average intake
per hectare is over four tonnes.
Ministry officials pointed out that the programme of wheat purchase
would be completed, adding that Croatia should not have to import the crop
this year.
The intake of other crops is also at an end: barley, rye, oats and
turnip.
