VUKOVAR, 11 July (Hina) - At Friday's session of Vukovar County Assembly
in Vukovar, County Prefect Rudolf Koenig presented a report on the work
of newly-elected bodies of local administration and self-government and
plans on economic revival of those parts of the County which are under
U.N. administration. #L#
Koenig said that the County would be based in Vukovar and have
offices in Ilok, Vinkovci and Zupanja. On 1 August, the County office in
Zagreb would be closed, Koenig said. He added that there were problems
with a large number of employees in the former illegal administration
services in the Danube river region.
Koenig expressed satisfaction with the start of the return of
displaced people to the U.N.-administered parts of the County, adding
that Croatian authorities would see that 40,000 displaced people return
to their homes by the end of the year.
Speaking about investments in the County, Koenig said that the
European Bank had granted a loan for the reconstruction of Vukovar High
School and schools in Ilok, Vodjinci, Gradiste and Rajevo Selo, which
should start this year.
Koenig also spoke about plans on the construction of a gas supply
system in Vukovar, which would also include apartments which are being
reconstructed.
Because it was too close to the state border, Vukovar port would be
relocated to the beginning of the Danube-Sava canal between Nustar,
Brsadin and Marinci. That section of the canal would be constructed
first, Koenig said, adding that its construction would most probably
start in spring next year.
