ZAGREB, July 10 (Hina) - Telephone services between the UN-administrated
eastern Croatian area and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia are
provided through the international switchboard in Zagreb as of Thursday.
One should use the international code 381 if they want to telephone from
the Croatian Danube area to FR Yugoslavia.
Under an agreement with the UN Transitional Administrator for the
Croatian Danube area, the Croatian Post and Telecommunications (HPT)
took over responsibility for providing post and telecommunication
services in the Croatian Danube area on May 9, 1997, said a statement
released by the HPT.
According to the agreement, the HPT has undertaken commitment to
direct telephone lines between the UN-administrated Croatian area and
the FR Yugoslavia via the international switchboard in Zagreb toward the
international switchboard in Belgrade. Prices of telephone calls will be
harmonised with prices of other calls between Croatia and FRY until
October 10, 1997.
According to the agreement, on July 10 the HPT severed telephone
lines between Beli Manastir and the two towns in Vojvodina, Sombor and
Novi Sad, as well as lines between Vukovar and Novi Sad and Belgrade.
HPT has doubled the number of wires between Croatia and Yugoslavia
in both directions in recent days.
