"Around 6,000 Croats from Kakanj, Zenica and Vares (central Bosnia)
are currently accommodated in Stolac and none of them have returned to
their homes because Bosniac authorities would not let them," president
of the Association of Bosnian Croat Refugees and Displaced Persons,
Stefo Masatovic, said on Friday.
The Association had in March asked of Bosniac authorities to enable
the return of 500 Croat families to Kakanj and 500 to Bugojno, but there
was still no reply, Masatovic said.
So far, he said, 21 Bosniac families had returned to Stolac, out of
which five under the pilot-project of return, and 16 from western
European countries or Croatia. These families had moved in damaged homes
which were being repaired by the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR)
and in which Croat families had not been accommodated, Masatovic said.
He recalled that Croats and Bosniacs had two weeks ago signed an
agreement on the unconditional return of Bosniacs to Busovaca.
