1996 was the first year without budget revision and we can be
satisfied with the realisation of incomes, Assistant Finance Minister
Mijo Jukic said.
The income and expenditure sides of budget assets were well-
balanced. Imbalance amounts to only 0.14%, Jukic said, adding that the
imbalance in extra-budget funds amounted to 0.6%.
Compared to 195, current budgetary revenues had increased by 11%,
Jukic said, adding that 306 out of a total of 322 million kunas of
current budget reserves had been spent.
He also expressed satisfaction with a low inflation rate (3.3%) and
the revival of economic activities, which have been registering
continual growth for 16 months.
Gross national product had registered a 14% nominal increase and 9%
real increase, Jukic said, adding that with its structure of share of
services, industrial and agricultural production in GNP, Croatia had
approached developed countries.
Jukic also expressed satisfaction with the Croatian National Bank
(NBH) foreign currency reserves which amounted to US $2,2 billion.
Speaking about the execution of the budget in the first three
months of this year, Jukic said that the realised incomes amounted to
just above 20%. That was satisfactory, he said, adding that the first
four months were always characterised by poor economic activity.
