SARAJEVO, 18 June (Hina) - The outgoing High International
Representative in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Carl Bildt, on Wednesday sent a
special message to the citizens of Bosnia-Herzegovina, ahead of his
departure to Sweden.
In the message, which was broadcast by three TV stations, Bildt
stressed that the future of the country lay in the hands of the people
of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also in the hands of their political
leaders. #L#
Summing up the results which have been achieved since 1995, Bildt
stressed that his mission had seemed impossible in the beginning, but he
himself had been convinced of the possibility of success.
The road to true peace is long, Bildt said, adding that all have to
bear in mind three facts - the international community would never
allow another war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it would not allow the
disintegration of the country and it would not allow predominance of one
group or one nation.
To think about such things means to lose time, Bildt said, warning
the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina that today they do not need any
national leaders, but decent living conditions, jobs, salaries and
schools.
Bosnia and Herzegovina will have a future only if its citizens stop
looking back at their past, Bildt said.
