ZAGREB, June 5 (Hina) - "Battle For Vukovar", a book about the war-
ravaged eastern Croatian city, was presented in Zagreb on Thursday. The
book is, according to reviewer Andjelko Mijatovic, a historiographic
testimony of the summer and autumn 1991 events in Vukovar, and the
determination of the Croatian people to defend their homeland from a
militarily stronger enemy.
On 360 pages, with numerous photographs and maps, the authors, a
war commander, a Vukovar reporter and a war reporter (Mile Dedakovic,
Alenka Mirkovic-Nadj and Davor Runtic), document in great detail what
was going on in and around Vukovar in 1991, including battle accounts,
descriptions of military actions and the situation on the battlefield.
The book, as Mijatovic pointed out, also speaks about the functioning of
civilian life, and the persecution and suffering of Vukovar defenders
and civilians.
The book's editor, Mile Maslac, assessed it was good that the book
appeared right now, at the time of the return to Vukovar. The whole
Croatia was fought for in Vukovar, and Vukovar was defended by people
from all over Croatia, he said.
"With truth, the main goals in creating the book were to speak
about Croatians and their desire to create a homeland, and to show the
world, through the maps, what sort of military power was coming against
Vukovar from Serbia and Montenegro", Dedakovic, one of the authors,
said, adding that special attention in the book was dedicated to war
tactics in the battle for Vukovar.
