ILOK MAYOR DISSATISFIED WITH TALKS WITH LOCAL SERBS

ZAGREB, June 5 (Hina) - The exiled Croat mayor of Ilok, a town in the UN-administered Danube region of eastern Croatia, said on Thursday he was dissatisfied with events in the Ilok area following the foundation of the town council. Mayor Stipan Kraljevic said in Zagreb that his meeting with representatives of the Serb Independent Democratic Party (SDSS) in Ilok on Wednesday had failed to produce an agreement on the future makeup of town administration. The SDSS officials took the view that Croatian Serbs who had fled to Yugoslavia should be allowed to move into vacant houses of displaced Croats, he said. Describing the idea as unacceptable, Kraljevic said that Serbs in Bapska and Sarengrad were looting houses despite the presence of UNTAES and the Transitional Police Force. According to Kraljevic, nearly half the housing units in the two towns were unsuitable for living and destroyed. (hina) vm mm 051800 MET jun 97
