SPLIT, June 2 (Hina) - Deputy President of the European Parliament,
Doris Pack, and the former French Ambassador to Croatia, Georges-Marie
Chenu, suggested in Split (central Adriatic) on Sunday that the
establishment should be instigated of a world foundation for the
reconstruction of culture monuments in Croatia, as they said its
greatest part surpassed national frames and were of European and
international importance.
Pack and Chenu attended a symposium "The Destruction of Croatian
Cultural Heritage in War" which ended in Split on Sunday.
Chenu said such a wide action should be raised to the UNESCO level,
and announced that his book about the last Balkan war" that he had
written with Jean Cott, would soon be translated onto Croatian.
Croatians would be able to see that European governments had had
sufficient information to prevent a war in this region in 1991, he said.
Head of the Administration for the Protection of Cultural and
Natural Heritage of Zadar, Miljenko Domijan stressed that exclusively
Croatian money had been invested so far into the reconstruction of
destroyed cultural monuments in Zadar, although many churches in the
area destroyed in the war were listed as world cultural heritage.
