ZAGREB, March 20 (Hina) - Turkish State Archive Director Ismet Binark
delivered a lecture at the Croatian State Archive in Zagreb on Thursday on
sources for studying Croatian history.
The cooperation agreement between the state archives of the two
countries, which was signed on Wednesday, would enable the recording of
those historical records, Croatian State Archive Director Josip Kolanovic
said.
Kolanovic added that the Turkish State Archive was particularly
important for studying historical events in Slavonia during Ottoman rule in
the 16th and 17th centuries because it was almost the only source of records
on the social and economic development of that part of Croatia.
Binark said that the creation of the Turkish State Archive had begun
even before the establishment of the Ottoman Empire and that it was a rich
source of historical records on Balkan, Mediterranean, Near East and Middle
East countries.
