ZAGREB, Feb 10 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman on Monday received
the the head of the UN Transitional Administration in Eastern Slavonia
(UNTAES), General Jacques Klein, the President's Office said in a statement.
The President said that full agreement between the Croatian Government
and the UN Transitional Administrator, as well as a presidential statement
by the UN Security Council, provided a firm basis for the holding of
elections, full establishment of Croatian authority and successful
completion of the UNTAES mandate by July 15.
Under discussion was the conduct of elections in the Croatian Danubian
area, and it was said that a decision on calling an election in entire
Croatia, including the Danubian area, would be announced in the coming days.
As regards the security situation in the Danubian area, Interior
Minister Ivan Penic and Klein reported that the number of police officers of
Croatian nationality in the Transitional Police Force would be increased
soon.
Attending were Presidential Chief of Staff Hrvoje Sarinic, Deputy
Prime Minister and Government Representative to the Transitional
Administration Ivica Kostovic, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister
Mate Granic, Defence Minister Gojko Susak, Interior Minister Ivan Penic,
Justice Minister Miroslav Separovic, Administration Minister Davorin Mlakar
and Presidential Deputy Chief of Staff Vesna Skare-Ozbolt.
General Klein was accompanied by General Willy Hanset, Jacques
Grinberg, Michaell Hryshchyshyn and Jacqueline Knappenberger, the statement
concluded.
