OSIJEK, 8 Jan (Hina) - As of tomorrow, sponsored visits in the area
under the U.N. Transitional Administration (UNTAES) will last three
days and not one day as it used to be, Vukovar-based UNTAES office
said in a statement on Wednesday. #L#
Since mid December, when sponsored visits were introduced,
some 3,000 people have paid one-day visits to the UNTAES area and
vice versa.
The decision to prolong visits from one to three days is part
of UNTAES efforts to secure greater freedom of movement of and
visits between friends and families who want to travel to and from
the U.N.-administered area, the statement said.
The registration procedure remains the same at all three
crossing points (Bilje, Vukovar-Osijek and Vinkovci-Mirkovci).
Visitors who enter the U.N.-administered area can park their
cars at the crossing point and walk to the other side where they
will meet their 'sponsor'.
Each visitor will receive a document with his or her name on
it. If they want to, visitors can inform the nearest police station
about their stay in the area, the statement said.
Those visitors who come from the U.N.-administered area and
want to visit other parts of Croatia have to register with
Transitional Police forces.
Visitors can cross the former separation zone every day from 7
a.m. to 4.30 p.m., except Saturday when the Vukovar-Osijek crossing
point is closed because UNTAES' market place is open Saturdays.
Those who enter or leave the area have to have Croatian
citizenship certificates and Croatian IDs, the statement said.
