The purpose of the EUR 235,000 project, launched on 7 January and recently closed, was to strengthen the capacity of the Croatian Environment Agency (AZO) to provide timely, targeted, relevant and reliable information about the environment in Croatia to the European Environment Agency (EEA).
The project was implemented in cooperation with the environment agencies of Austria and Slovakia.
Rene Vukelic of the Croatian Environment Agency said that according to the latest estimates of the EEA, Croatia already meets 92 per cent of obligations for timely information and is 11th on a list of 38 countries-members of the European Environment Information and Observation Network (EIONET). These results for the 2010/2011 period are better than the results for 2009/2010 when Croatia met 78 per cent of obligations in this area and landed at No. 25.
