Croatian parliament speaker receives Chinese official

ZAGREB, Sept 19 (Hina) - Croatian Parliament Speaker Luka Bebic on Monday received Chen Kuiyuan, the vice chairman of the national committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), for talks on bilateral political, parliamentary and economic relations.

Croatia attaches great importance to the development of traditionally good and friendly relations with China and wants to intensify political dialogue at all levels, the Croatian parliament's head said at a news conference.

He added that the maintenance of high intensity of visits of senior office-holders from the two countries was an important contribution to the broad cooperation and friendship between the Croatian and the Chinese peoples.

Our visit to Croatia represents China's wish to further develop bilateral relations. Croatia is one of the most important strategic partners of China in this region and we are happy to see progress and political stability Croatia has achieved in the last two decades, Chen told reporters after his meeting with Bebic.

The priority in our relations is being given to deepening economic relations and we would like to use a high level of political trust for strengthening the economic cooperation so as to reduce Croatia's deficit in the trade with China through Chinese investments into tourism, infrastructure projects, seaports and energy sector, Bebic said.

In this sense we welcome the arrival of executives of the Fufeng company, a leading monosodium glutamate producer in the world, who have discussed with Podravka executives the possibilities of investments into Croatia and opening its first manufacturing plant in Europe, Bebic said.
