ZAGREB, Dec 22 (Hina) - Exactly eight years ago the Croatian National Sabor proclaimed a constitution confirming Croatia's sovereignty and defining Croatia as an united and indivisible democratic and social state. On December 22, 1990, Croatian President Franjo Tudjman said that by adopting the Constitution, the Croatian Sabor did "what we have been entrusted with by the Croatian people and a large majority of Croatian citizens at the first multi-party elections (April 22 and May 6, 1990)". The final break-up with the Communist, so-called socialist-self- governing, one-party system, was marked by the "Christmas Constitution", which also laid a foundation for the establishment of full national sovereignty. Since the 1990 Constitution was adopted at the time the Republic of Croatia was still officially a part of the former Yugoslav federation, last year the Sabor erased certain regulations, which ceased to be valid upon the establishment of Croatia's sovereignty and its international recognition. The Croatian Sabor last year amended the Constitution by adding a regulation confirming the struggle of the Croatian people for its freedom and state independence during the Homeland War (1991- 1995). The regulation strictly forbids any procedure of Croatia's association with other states, which would or could lead to the revival of the Yugoslav state community, or the establishment of a Balkan state association.
