ZAGREB, Dec 8 (Hina) - Croatian Vice-Premier Ljerka Mintas-Hodak on
Wednesday opened an art exhibition taken from the Vukovar museum in
exile, organised on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the
adoption of UN's Declaration on Human Rights.
"This anniversary is being marked all over the world and presents an
occasion to not only get an insight into what has been achieved in
human rights in the past 50 years, but also to point out what remains
to be done," Mintas-Hodak said.
She recalled the Declaration had been adopted after World War II as
a show of awareness aimed at guaranteeing every person freedom,
equality, respect, a life in dignity, security and global peace.
Recalling Vukovar's golgotha during the Serb aggression and
occupation, Mintas-Hodak stressed that at the time a destructive
and monstrous hatred as opposed to light and creative ideals
contained in the principles of the Declaration.
She expressed satisfaction that the exhibition had been organised,
and particularly with the donations of artists from Croatia and
abroad to the Vukovar museum in exile.
Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic, one of the initiators of the
exhibition, also spoke about the donations.
Present at the opening were numerous state and culture officials,
as well as ambassadors accredited in Croatia.
The exhibition includes 40 works by prominent Croatian painters and
sculptors.
