SARAJEVO, Dec 5 (Hina) - The High Representative for implementation
of the Dayton agreement, Carlos Westendorp, on Saturday condemned
incidents directed against international representatives in
Bosnia-Herzegovina, which occurred in eastern parts of the Bosnian
Serb entity in the past two days.
Westendorp requested the Republika Srpska authorities to
immediately carry out an investigation into the incidents with the
aim of finding and punishing the perpetrators.
The incidents directly jeopardised the lives of two international
representatives while three vehicles used by European Union (EU)
and International Police Task Force (IPTF) officials were
destroyed, Westendorp warned in a statement sent to Hina in
Sarajevo.
The incidents occurred following the recent arrest of a Serb
general and war crimes suspect Radislav Krstic.
Westendorp also mentions demonstrations staged on Friday in
Vlasenica (eastern Bosnia) and the Vlasenica mayor's accusation
that the Stabilisation Force had maltreated Krstic.
Westendorp described theses claims as completely unfounded and
requested the Republika Srpska President Nikola Poplasen to take
measures aimed at bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The High Representative also reminded that there are still 25
persons residing in the Republika Srpska against whom the
international war crimes tribunal in the Hague issued indictments,
while the entity's authorities are refusing to fulfil their
obligations from the Dayton agreement.
Concluding the statement, Westendorp warned that he himself would
take the necessary measures should incidents against international
representatives reoccur.
