MONTGOMERY SATISFIED WITH RECONSTRUCTION PLAN

ZAGREB, Dec 4 (Hina) - US Ambassador to Croatia William Montgomery on Friday expressed his satisfaction with the Croatian reconstruction plan. "That sort of document is probably the best that I've seen," Montgomery said, recalling he had been to many reconstruction conferences. Montgomery is representing the Article 11 Commission at the Conference on the Reconstruction and Development of Croatia being held in Zagreb on Friday and Saturday. The Article 11 Commission is in charge of supervising the implementation of an agreement on the peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danube river region that had been under Serb occupation. "Another important part of this puzzle is this whole vision of economic revitalisation," Montgomery stressed at the reconstruction conference. Pointing out that this was not a criticism, the US Ambassador said the Croatian "Government is rebuilding houses all over the country, but the economic structure to support that degree of population isn't there". Mentioning the southeastern Croatian town of Knin, Montgomery said the Croatian Government must have a vision of how to attract domestic and international investors, revive the economy and institute a promotional campaign to attract people to return.
