traffic control in order to improve safety and to protect the
maritime environment.
The National Search and Rescue Centre was opened by Maritime
Affairs, Transport and Communications Minister Zeljko Luzavec.
The Centre has modern equipment, in accordance with the principles
of the international convention on search and rescue which Croatia
signed this February.
Assistant Maritime Affairs Minister Mario Babic said the Centre is
at the moment one of the best equipped in the Mediterranean.
"The Croatian part of the Adriatic has almost 1,200 islands and
cliffs around which maritime traffic of all kinds meanders, and
this is why we have introduced a number of measures for its timely
and proper protection," Luzavec said presenting a system of
protection of the Adriatic.
