The union representatives gathered around 11 am in front of the
Education and Sport Ministry, demanding negotiations on the
financing of the school system in 1999 and the implementation of
conclusions on selective increase of salaries in education,
adopted by the Parliament in June.
A negotiating team of pre-school unions organised today's protest
after Finance Minister Borislav Skegro, Education and Sport
Minister Bozidar Pugelnik and Deputy Prime Minister Ljerka Mintas
Hodak failed to appear at this morning's meeting of union
representatives.
The Government representatives were invited to the meeting with
union representatives to explain and "justify" funds allocated for
education in the draft budget for 1999.
