Saturday held talks with Council of Europe Secretary-General
Daniel Tarschys.
The talks were held as part of numerous bilateral meetings held
during a two-day summit of Central European Initiative countries
taking place in Zagreb.
Granic informed Tarschys about Croatia's agreement with the
Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe with regard to
its mandate in eastern Croatia, about the situation surrounding the
signing of a special relations agreement between Croatia and the
Croat-Muslim Federation, one of Bosnia's two entities, and an
agreement with Bosnia on Croatia's passage through the Bosnian port
of Neum and Bosnia's use of the Croatian port of Ploce, about the
return of refugees, and the situation in Croatian media.
"The expectations are great with regard to the application of the
Croatian Television law and resolving the problem in the
distribution of newspapers, and with regard to a possible agreement
on a new electoral law between the (governing) Croatian Democratic
Union and the opposition," Granic told reporters.
He added the talks with Tarschys also tackled the situation in the
Croatian banking and judiciary systems.
Tarschys confirmed the emphasis in the talks was on the situation in
the Croatian media and human rights protection.
He added Croatia was a member of the Council of Europe and the very
close cooperation in numerous fields was aimed at progress in
adopting legal frameworks and standards necessary for complying
with Council of Europe principles.
