ZAGREB, Nov 13 (Hina) - A recent report by the European Commission
on Croatia was written without any attempt to observe new events and
it is too general. The report was adopted by the Council of
Ministers of the European fifteen without discussion and the report
confirms that Croatia "is unfortunately being held hostage to the
politics of the regional access". This was said at Friday's regular
press conference of the ruling Croatian Democratic Party (HDZ)by a
member of the Croatian delegation to the Council of Europe's
Parliamentary Assembly, Zdravka Busic.
"I personally consider it (the report) as unfair", she said. It
gives general opinions which are difficult to respond to.
There is no need to "make a mountain out of a mole hill", she said
adding that it will be necessary to analyse the report in detail and
prepare a response.
Referring to the current visit by members of the Council of Europe's
Parliamentary Assembly, Busic said that similar meetings are quite
usual and are conducted in other member countries.
The delegation is here to monitor Croatia's adherence to the 21
obligations which Croatia assumed upon accessing the Council of
Europe.
HDZ's spokesman Drago Krpina believes that the background to
international pressure on Croatia can be founded on international
factors desiring to treat Croatia within the boundaries of the so-
called regional approach.
He announced that at their meeting tomorrow, the HDZ's National
Committee would affirm its position with regard to the resignation
of MP's of six opposition parties, to their functions in
parliamentary working bodies.
