ZAGREB, Nov 6 (Hina) - Representatives of the Croatian government
and the international community on Thursday held a meeting of a
committee coordinating the implementation of a government refugee
return plan.
This second meeting was very successful, the parties assessed.
"The meeting was held in an exceptionally constructive atmosphere,
and it has been determined that the Croatian government is
complying with all of its obligations with regard to the return
programme," said Lovre Pejkovic, head of the government's Office
for Displaced Persons and Refugees.
He added the government was successfully complying with a series of
set obligations ahead of an international conference on the
reconstruction and development of Croatia.
A group of domestic and international experts checked the
international community's remarks in relation to certain laws, and
forwarded certain recommendations which, said Pejkovic, the
Croatian government can carry out quickly and efficiently.
According to Robert Robinson, head of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) mission in Croatia, the results
of today's meeting greatly surpass UNHCR's expectations.
Speaking on behalf of the European Union, Austrian Ambassador to
Croatia Rudolf Bogner said he was impressed with the progress the
Croatian government had made in complying with its obligations in
the refugee return process.
He believed the Croatian government would also resolve the two
remaining open issues referring to compulsory instructions and
legal interpretations.
These issues will be resolved by month's end which will pave the way
for a successful holding of the reconstruction and development
conference, said Bogner, adding the international community was
preparing for the conference.
