HEAVY RAIN CAUSE FLOODS ON CROATIAN COAST

( Editorial: --> 9515 ) RIJEKA, Oct 19 (Hina) - Floods in north and central Croatian side of Adriatic coast were caused by constant 15-hour heavy rain. Lower parts of north Croatian port of Rijeka are under water due to the rain. The Rjecina river running through the city of Rijeka had raise. The water level is 30-50 centimetres. The water is entering basement apartments and shops, the public transportation is not operating, while the rest of the traffic is almost completely blocked. The power supply difficulties were also caused by the rain. During constant 15-hour heavy rain in the Rijeka area, almost 150 litres fell per square metre. Floods were also caused by the rain in the Zadar area, central Adriatic. The traffic had been interrupted on Monday morning, on that part of Adriatic highway for floods have caused road damages.
